The Idea
It began as a little dream
The dream for a mini retreat for family and friends has emerged into a renowned bespoke experience in nature.
Designed and created by The Burnham’s and a few expert builder friends, Bloodwood Cabin mimics the natural world that surrounds it while creating experiences with a touch of lux. The warm earthy Ironbark and Blue Gum timber harvested with care and milled on the property are some of the strongest hardwoods in Australia. The simple design with repurposed doors and windows opening wide allows guests to feel immersed in the outdoors, even when indoors.
It is the ultimate experience of simplicity and luxury. Wrap yourself in divine linen threads, sip espresso coffee (camping style) from local handmade ceramics and rest your body in the sunken bath – all in the presence of the silence of the beautiful bushland.

SUSTAINABILITY
We love the natural world
The Burnham family tend to their land in a way that respects cultural heritage, enhances nature and contributes to repair of the planet.
The landscape is as untouched as possible with trees, pastures, fauna and flora co-existing with beautiful cattle. Organic certification means no chemicals or synthetic inputs are applied to animals or the land. Healthy soil is at the core of growing nutrient dense food. A soil carbon project on Bonnie Doone sequestered more than 100 000 tonnes of CO2e between 2016 and 2021 – deep in the soils this carbon is locked away being drawn down from the atmosphere.
The cabin is made from recycled, salvaged or handmade products. We encourage guests to live in the most minimal way when they stay. Bring little, take waste (or we recycle it) and walk lightly on the earth.
There is no need for added noise or fuss – simply allow the sounds of nature and the silence of the landscape to pulse through our beating hearts.
It’s the bush, let’s face it! There are critters everywhere. Our philosophy is to simply allow the native animals, birds and reptiles to simply do their thing. We allow them to come and go, untouched and admired from a distance.
Nature arranges itself perfectly; us humans may simply observe and breathe.

The Space
Where you'll sleep
Located on a hill far enough away from the main house, the cabin is secluded and private.
The cabin is located in the natural bushland where it shares the landscape with wallabies, kangaroos and native critters. We recommend closed in shoes if you are bush walking around the property and slip on’s for easy access around the cabin. The gorgeous timber floors of the cabin are best suited to bare feet.
The electricity is run off a solar system and the hot water is gas. The water is from pumped by solar from underground. Enjoy a long soak in the bath tub with locally made bath salts or re-energise with a shower – both options available in the privacy of your bathroom. A small rainwater tank is on the side of the cabin and a water filter inside for drinking.
